Angelfish update

I talked to Melissa yesterday while she was slightly hopped up on drugs (fun!), and she thinks she might be able to go home in a few days....if everything keeps getting better. I don't think the doctors still know what all has been wrong with her (headaches, etc.), but she must be making some good progress. Just wanted to pass that along!

I know. I never, ever post. (Sorry.) Please disregard that for now.

The theatre received a large box of Coraline PR stuff (posters, cards, activity books) that we aren't going to put out at our children's theatre. The movie PR firm (or whoever) doesn't want it back, and I kinda claimed the whole box. So, who wants something? Or even just mail?

I'm still in Houston, and I still want to be in Houston, so I think that means I've had a successful month. If nothing else, I now have more furniture than could fit in the car, so I might as well stick around for awhile.

Auditions for the show I'm SM-ing are this week, which means I'll have to start thinking about it and divert some of my focus off my currently rehearsing show, plus I'll get to spend some time away from the box office in the midst of switching technology/having meltdown madness. Perfect timing.

Otherwise, life is fairly standard. I had some stress all pile together and lead to one big "crying on the phone to Mom" session midweek, but I feel much better for it, and everything has worked out since. Also, I now have costumed character birthday party experience, and if that doesn't scream resume builder, I don't know what will.

moving to Houston...still don't own a car

Popping up briefly just to say I leave Missouri tomorrow along with a multitude of things I still haven't packed up yet. I understand that we can only take what's can fit in the car (there's a possible follow-up trip happening later), but I am a bit concerned about my utter lack of furniture. I guess that's why cardboard boxes are so sturdy: insta-tables!

Other things I'm concerned with: suddenly realizing I forgot something, being several states away from my favorite people, starting a new job, doing this "adult, real life" thing. I'm ready to move just so I can start getting over my anxieties (or be too busy to notice them).

unfair!

Saw "The King and I" at the Muny last night (yay, free seats!) and yoinked a program after the show like always. Beyond the revelation that the fourth lead was the guy who played the prince in "Cinderella" with Brandy (who was so wonderful and then never heard from again - until now, I guess), was my first glance at the Fox upcoming season.

St. Louis, curse you for getting Putnam County Spelling Bee AND Edward Scissorhands when I'll be too far to roadtrip!

Apparently my birthday/graduation (and now probably /Houston) gift wasn't the ability to travel to London, it's the mp3 player of my choice. Problem is, I don't know what will best handle what I'm looking for. Here I come to you, dear one and all.

Hannah's musts:

* lots of storage, seeing as I have too much music - around 20 gigs?
* likewise, long battery to handle such
* easy uploads/general usage
* a recording function, seeing as I've gotten lots of use out of my tape recorder lately

That potentially covers every mp3 player around. Anyway, feel free to hit me with personal bias, insider info, and etc. Thanks!

Right. So, I'd been pestering a Texas theatre for a few weeks now (broken by a slight gallavant across the ocean) about an interview, but people kept not being at work, feeling ill, etc. Such is life when you're trying to get four people together for one big call.

Anyway, after a surprise "why don't we just do this interview now?" phone call on Tuesday, I received a call back on Wednesday offering me a job. The fools.

I'll move to Houston for either an August or September 1st start date (quote: "Yes, I see that's a month apart. I'm not certain when the staff will want you.") to be the stage managment intern. They train me for two mainstage shows, and then I'm in charge of the other two mainstage shows. Plus, they're implimenting a new box office system and want my help; plus, they have a children's theatre; plus, good golly, I need a car now.

I'm excited. I'm also happy to actually have a job in place so I can begin not living with my parents in the very near future. But mostly I'm just excited.

The best one that I've seen so far is Beyond Retro, basically a giant warehouse of not-that-expensive stuff. 112 Chesire St. E2 (take the Liverpool St. tube or rail)

I also have Annie's Vintage Clothes (12 Camden Passage N1), Appleby (95 Westbourne Park Villas W2), Biba Lives and The Girl Can't Help It (Alfies Antiques Mraket, 13-25 Church St. NW8), and Rokit (101 & 107 Brick Lane E1) all recommended by the same book.

Best of luck! I'll let you know how some of them go...

Belated thanks for all the birthday sunshine, now that I'm trying to avoid thinking about not living in 315 anymore. I might have to sneak in sometime because I'm really going to miss sleeping six feet in the air.

Time to dismantle computer and move furniture and stuff. See people at graduation, airports, randomly in crowds, etc.

I don't know much beyond a date--October 20--but I have a few choice words: "Nightmare Before Christmas" in 3D.

For those inclined, the children's theatre class will also be presenting at Undergrad and therefore performing the entire show "Squids Will Be Squids" (featuring special appearances by Toast, Various Bugs, Echidna, Ben's Stitch Voice, and an Actual [Not Really] Squid!) at 2:45 in the black box theatre (second floor). It lasts about half an hour and counts for about 150% of the excercise that I would otherwise need to do in a week.

Come support Melissa, Ben, Megan, myself, and other theatre people you may somewhat recognize from other ventures! Hurray!

in other news, I'm still hungry

I'm currently on hold with the Computer-Based Testing Center since they apparently scheduled me to take the GRE at 1:30 instead of 6:00. (I found out through a phone call from Melissa, so proof positive you should always tell people where you are.) Their official confirmation sheet they gave me says my test begins at 6:00, so I'm hopefully covered from any charges/forfeits of needed cash they could otherwise inflict. Double hopefully no one wants to buy tickets to Violet while I'm sitting here, waiting for someone helpful to pop back on the line and tell me I wasn't just screwed over by a faulty student worker.

Speaking of Violet, it opens next Tuesday, it's $5 due to "musical" status, and Ben has possibly the best song of the first act. I'll be backstage, lugging set pieces around.

Geez, I should've looked at the clock when they put me on hold......

EDITED: Shoot, just pulled the phone off the counter. So much for corded phones. Is it bad that I can't tell if I'm still on hold or not? The lack of dial tone is encouraging.

Apparently the story is spreading about myself, three random hooligans (who may or may not have been prospective students or townies), and a couple of folklore-supporting balloons. The basic story:

Just as a reminder (or first warning for those of you outside the loop), I'm currently housesitting and therefore able to provide free laundry for the duration of my pastor's trip to South Africa (yes, really). I believe they're gone until April 10th, so between then and now, have at. You can spend some time on their really comfortable couch and eat food from their fridge. I'm thinking there should be a sleepover somewhere in there.

I'm so ready to bolt from the apartment that I walked 45 min. to reach downtown for the library/shopping district. If there wasn't stuff happening mid-week, I'd be showing up on doorsteps for the remainder of this week.

Anyway, could someone please tape Gilmore Girls and Lost for me this week? Reception is less than optimal here and we don't even have WB. For your services I will provide all the love in my heart and whatever chocolate is left in the fridge.

checking the calendar

It occurs to me, now that I have at least part of a schedule, that I'll need to lead Golden Globes hosting duties to Meredith and Melissa (if she is so inclined) as it seems I'll be at a marathon blocking rehearsal during the majority (if not all) of the show. While this saddens me greatly, it just means I'll provide extra sparkling grape juice for the Oscars, which happily occur the week after the show and therefore *nothing* will prevent me from hunkering down and watching them. Well, short of all the homework I won't do because of the week of show crap.

life on break

I'm glad my family owns so many DVDs if for no other reason than I can never say I have nothing to do. I can claim there's nothing I *want* to do, but this is slightly different and therefore I don't let it last long. Also, someone needs to seriously put an end to all the CSI episode viewing as I'm paranoid about the people shopping at the same time as myself, and that can't be healthy.

Anyway, break is basically all I pictured as I'm in a very small space, keep sleeping incredibly late to ignore such facts, and spend the rest of the time bundled up on the couch because the heat isn't so great. Plus, I'm catching up on my page-a-day calendar so basically everyone can expect origami crap when school hits again. You're welcome, I'm sure.

We're potentially leaving for elsewhere either tomorrow or Thursday, depending on how dam crisis control is going (Hey, STL people - heard about a dam breaking? My Dad's been dealing with that particular stretch of potential hazard for over a year and is way ready for a vacation from it this year.) The KC and Iowa tripping might be cut short this year so my brother can fly to Wyomming (with the buffalo) for his new job, but I'm attempting to wrangle a road trip to take his stuff...and get me elsewhere for awhile.

I actually get to return to the 'Ville a little early since I'm ASMing the next mainstage (and apparently everyone I know who lives on campus...and some who don't...knew it before I did on Friday) and Lee starts rehearsals early.

Perhaps I'll post again over break, but it will depend on wrestling the computer away from another, smaller grandchild (one who's been shooed away from the video games for taking too long of a turn and/or has become bored with watching the same movie after the 53rd time), and I might be too busy eating chocolate to bother. Or, whatever. Happy Boxing Day [in advance] because if I don't say it, what other Canadian do you know to bring it up?

Oh Great Cthulhu!

I have been an extremely sedulous devotee this year.

In May, I fed [info]mir_fin to a Shoggoth (250 points). In March, I burnt my copy of the Necronomicon (-75 points). In July, I legally changed my name to Randolph Carter (-40 points). In December, I made a burnt offering to the Dead Dreamer (100 points). In January, I rammed a ship into you (sorry Cthulhu!) (-1000 points). In April, I stopped [info]holligenet from defiling Lovecraft's grave (-20 points).

In short, I have been very bad (-785 points) and deserve to be flayed alive.

[Excerpt from "Hannah Finds a Third Deck Crew Member Last Minute," as performed by phone earlier this evening]

HS: You'll be up on the catwalk--
The Incomparable Michael H.: I like it up there.
HS: I know.
TIMH.: Besides, I am the Phantom of the Courtyard.
HS: ... Right. So all you have to do is be up there and throw cigarettes and I'll bring those.
TIMH.: What? You don't think I'm dangerous?
HS: [?]
TIMH.: I ride motorcycles and smoke! Spread it around!

So, I think people mostly know by now, but it's exactly one week before my one-act. If for whatever reason you can't make the show Friday, December 9 at 8:00 p.m., I'm really open to letting in people for the dress rehearsal Monday evening (6:30-8:00). My monkeys could actually stand to have a bit of an audience, just for the "pausing for laughter" sake, and I'd love to hear some more feedback before the last day. Let me know before [please] so I can pass word on to the cast.
